I began my interest in photography with a class in summer camp when I was nine. I used a Kodak box camera and then upgraded to a Brownie Hawkeye (The camera with the flash attached in the photo below). That’s me on the right -- someone used my Brownie to snap the shot.

My first “real camera” was the 35mm Pentax Spotmatic (bottom left on the photo). The camera had through the lens metering, but I still used a light meter. The cameras shown in the photo are some I have used through the years and not traded or sold. I currently using all digital -- primarily Nikons (like the D3s in the photo) and a PhaseOne Medium Format Camera with a PhaseOne digital back for studio work.

Fast forward through a career in the Army and another in business, running an IT company, all the while pursuing photography as a hobby. In 2005, I decided I had enough with the corporate world, quit, and started JPG Photo Events. Since then I have been doing portraits, events, and commercial work. Take a look at some of our portfolios.

I like photographing people -- telling a story. When I work with new photographers, I teach them the key I believe leads to great photography:

C-L-E-A-R. C = Composition; L = Lighting; E = Expression; A = Action; and R = Realism ©.

I apply CLEAR to every assignment.
